How is it Mary is a Queen?

I remember learning of the Queenship of Mary and Mary’s Coronation as Queen of Heaven almost 60+ years ago in Catholic schools. I remember learning that Mary, as Jesus’s Mother, was someday going to be a Queen and sit on a throne in Heaven, on Jesus’s right side. I never questioned this fact. Today though, for an authoritative take on Mary’s Queenship, please listen to Fr. Chris Alar,MIC, director of the Association of Marian Helpers, explaining Mary’s Queenship in reference to Jesus’s Kingship, in the line of King David! Click the link.
Additionally in 1 Kings 2:19 we find the reference: “Bathsheba therefore went to King Solomon, to speak to him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her and bowed down to her, and sat down on his throne and had a throne set for the king’s mother; so she sat at his right hand.” From this we see that the King’s Mother, is the “Queen Mother”, and sits on the King’s right side. in Our instance of Jesus, He is the King or all creation, and then Mary is the Queen of Heaven and all creation
In Revelations 12, there is reference to the coming birth of Christ and we find the description of “a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head, ” whom the passage goes on to say, gives birth and the baby boy is taken up to God in Heaven for his own!
So these are just a few references that validate what I was told over 60 years ago, that Mary, our Mother, my Mother, is also the Queen Mother in Heaven. I always share with you, what I have to work at to learn, thinking maybe someone else has the same need and I can help them as well. So I wish to close, with one more reference, this time from the University of Dayton’s Mary studies Department.
Mary is:
1) She is Queen because she is the Mother of the Lord, also called the Messianic King (see: Col 1:16; Lk 1:32; Lk 1:43).
2) She is Queen because she is wholeheartedly associated with her Son’s salvific work (Rv 12:5).
3) She is Queen because she is the perfect disciple of Christ (Rv 2:10; 3:21).
4) She is the most excellent member of the Church, because of her mission and holiness.
All of these reasons show that Mary’s Queenship can only be understood as a gift of her son to participate in his excellence of love. They also show that it is within the kingly status of the People of God that Mary-Queen fulfills her true vocation. Click link to read more from the Mary Center with the University of Dayton. Fiat!
